The Ballad of Edna Pugh – Kate Ashforde

Author: Kate Ashforde
Release Date: 24th March 2018
Format: Paperback
ISBN:
978-1912014750

Personal, courageous, honest, dark, witty and life affirming, this collection of poems is the legacy of a girl, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, an addict, a survivor, an earth woman, and a feminist. Viewing the human condition from these diverse and sometimes conflicting perspectives Kate expresses her feelings and thoughts with empathy, compassion, and romance.

A debut and farewell, this is a lifetime’s reflections on the triumphs and defeats of a woman who would not be denied, and would not be a victim.

‘An Open Book is a photographic collection of heart shaped images taken by me over the past four years. I was initially inspired by a small body of water on Red Screes, featured in the book. That was the start of an exciting and somewhat addictive search for this popular and romantic shape. I have been amazed at how many natural objects take this form and I am now delighted to share my compilation in this way. Having written poetry for many years and being something of a romantic at ‘heart’, it seemed the obvious choice to combine the images with heartfelt words and sentiment. It has, quite literally, been a labour of love. I hope that those who choose to browse will enjoy my creative compilation as much as I have enjoyed producing it.’
