Scott Cormack

Before becoming a bestselling Author (well not quite yet) I coached football for 4 years in the USA. I returned to the UK to further my coaching career as a member of the Manchester United and Bobby Charlton’s Soccer Schools coaching team. This provided an opportunity to move again and run a soccer school in Malta; which I relished. I decided after 2 fantastic years in the sunshine, and living the Mediterranean life that a move to the Lake District would be my next adventure. I packed my trunk with umbrellas, wellies and rain jackets and off we went to Kendal.

Living in the Lakes enabled me to get Ali my beautiful boxer dog and the star of the book. In 2007 I purchased a Little Kickers Franchise and set about building a coaching business which specialised in providing professionally run football classes for children age 18 months – 7 years old.  I now have classes held throughout Cumbria and Lancashire and have become very passionate about coaching this age group.

I believe that this age group should not be over looked and unlike most football providers Little Kickers specialises in providing a professional & FUN introduction to sport for children age 18mths – 7 yrs olds. Our unique “Play not Push” coaching philosophy helps the younger age groups to develop important fundamental skills which will give them the head start in sport which they deserve.

The book Ali B vs The Universe was initially developed as a coaching aid to help children at my classes understand a simple football game and help encourage them to use their imagination whilst playing with the football.

The story has now evolved into a full picture book illustrated by Liam Roberts which I hope will engage children’s imagination and encourage them to get active as well as encouraging them to develop a love of reading and books.

Ali B vs The Universe is brilliant for children & teachers alike. I read it to my class of 5 & 6 year olds & they loved it! They were enchanted by the story with its hidden depths & so remained focused & interested. Scott’s writing approach appealed to all my pupils, whatever their learning style. The pacey text & energetic game encouraged my more boisterous learners to develop their rhyming & alliterative skills, yet fostered my more passive learners to actively interact with the text in imaginative ways. All the children relished searching for the hidden characters. The book presents as sesitively written with underlying themes of obvious importance to the author. The children connected with this writing style. As a teacher, I often judge the quality of a children’s book by how long it lives on with the reader & how it impacts on children’s writing. My pupils can often be heard repeating rhyming couplets from the book. They play versions of the game & have used some of the ideas in their independent writng. More classroom resources of this calibre would be most welcome, so I hope Scott keeps writing!
